Charitable Giving Campaign

Next year, Salt Lake County Library is really hoping to get as many employees as possible to donate to Salt Lake County Cares, regardless of the amount given. For every employee that donates at least $1 per paycheck, Jim Cooper will donate an extra dollar on top of his regular donation!

One dollar from each paycheck may only be $24 a year, but if every County library employee donated this amount over $12,000 could be raised for great causes.

Even if you are already donating or have set up an end date in the future, you still need to log in to PeopleSoft and refresh the date to begin January 1, 2018 to ensure that your donations do not stop. One time donations are also available. December 31st is the last day to sign up, but changes can be made anytime until that date.

Two new charities have been included this year - Envision Utah and Shelter Kids.

So many of these charities hold direct ties to patrons at Magna, as well as other communities that we serve and live in. These include:

  • Children's Justice Center (cjcslc.org)
    • The Children's Justice Center seeks to foster an environment where abused children feel like they can come forward to report. They have held high school assemblies with unscripted speakers from peers and adults in the community with the message that they care. After one such assembly at Herriman High School, five girls came forward immediately afterward to report abuse they had experienced, as well as several others the following day. Their center also provides a welcoming place for children and the parents who bring them in to feel safe and begin to heal.
  • Community Health Charities (communityhealthcharities.org)
    • No one among us has been unaffected by chronic illness or health issues, whether they are our own of those of a loved one. Community Health Charities provides the opportunity to choose specific health causes to support from among 20 different options.
  • Community Shares Utah (communitysharesutah.org)
    • Representing 24 individual charities, Community Shares Utah encourages Utahns to "designate" through workplace giving campaigns. This is accomplished by selecting the nonprofit of choice and the amount of their contribution through the appropriate pledge form. The member agency always receives the designated contribution. All money contributed supports work of non-profits making community impacts here in Utah.
  • Envision Utah (envisionutah.org)
    • By 2050, Utah's population is expected to double what it is today. Envision Utah strives to make this growth sustainable while maintaining a high quality of life by acting to protect and improve air quality, natural beauty, entertainment, and other enjoyable attributes of Utah.
  • Shelter Kids (shelterkids.org)
    • Shelter Kids provides a nonprofit arm of Salt Lake County Youth Services to provide basic needs and activities to help integrate children into their community. Instead of funding a separate program and building, they use any donated resources to further help the kids served by County programs. Youth Services served about 9,000 kids last year, and housed over 1,000 children overnight. Shelter Kids provides many of these children with basic hygiene kits, including socks and underwear, as well as recreational therapy programs such as a child's first ever visit to a museum.  These activities can give these kids career ideas and shine a light into a pivotal turning point of their life.
  • United Way of Salt Lake (uw.org)
    • United Way lifts families from poverty through education. By the third grade, children begin reading to learn, and their reading levels hold a direct impact on whether or not they graduate from high school. Similarly. by the eighth grade the ability to learn math formulas dictate a similar impact on progress, graduation, and employability. Through 76 individual charities, United Way creates programs that provide tutors, vision checks, meals, and so much more.
  • Utah FACES (utahfaces.org)
    • Utah FACES Mission: To assist Salt Lake County Animal Services to improve animal welfare and eliminate euthanasia. Run entirely through volunteers, All of the money raised by Utah FACES goes directly back to the shelter to support spay and neuter programs, microchips and vaccines and large equipment purchases, such as a digital x-ray machine.
No matter which organization you choose, all of these charities have a measurable, positive impact, so pick the causes that matter most to you!

If you have further questions, please contact Danica! Whatever the amount, hopefully we can all donate
