Harry Potter Summer

This year for our local summer behavior incentive program, we're trying something a little different.  We're running with a Harry Potter theme!

Kids will have a chance to earn house points (or lose them if they are misbehaving).  We have this table set up behind the circ desk with the banners and cups. There are marbles of appropriate color for each house; 1 marble = 1 house point. There are also scrolls (not in this picture) with a roster for each house.

To participate, kids first need to sign up for their house.  It's self selected. Yes, this probably means we will have lots of Gryffindors and not as many Hufflepuffs, but that's ok.  We'll calculate the winning house by points-per-person.  All they need to do to sign up is write their name on the appropriate scroll for their house. They do need to pick a house; we don't want kids changing their house all summer.  The winners will get a special lock-in program just for members of their house.

Kids can earn house points for coming to library programs, reading in the library, helping out - a lot of the the same things we had with our ice-cream program in previous years.  They will have points taken away if they are misbehaving.  Hopefully, this will mean that they will self-police a little bit because they are essentially working as a team to earn points for their house.

Besides the House Cup contest, we also have Golden Tickets for staff to give out.  The tickets are to recognize good behavior.  Please be liberal with giving these out!  Kids can turn in one ticket at the information desk for a little prize, or save up 5 for a bigger prize (soda, chips etc.). We're hoping this will not only be a positive reinforcement for them, but also will encourage us to see more of the good things our kids are doing in the library.
